Academic examinations may be assigned by the APEGNB Examinations Committee to:
- Demonstrate your knowledge of your discipline
- To supplement your academic qualifications
Specific examinations are assigned to you by APEGNB after a detailed assessment of your academics. These would, most likely be defined as “Group A and Group B” and could consist of a mix of the following, depending on your assessment. If you have been assigned other types of exams by the Examinations Committee, you must complete these exams BEFORE writing the NPPE.
National Professional Practice Exam (NPPE)
The NPPE confirms knowledge of professionalism, law, and ethics. All applicants for a professional designation (P.Eng./P.Geo.) must pass the NPPE before they can be licensed to practice.
You must be registered with APEGNB as an applicant or member-in-training in order to write this exam with APEGNB.
Confirmatory Exams
These exams confirm that you have obtained the equivalent education qualifications as a CEAB-accredited degree. Your Examinations Committee decision letter will provide you with more information on which exams you must write before being considered academically qualified.
Confirmatory Exams are offered twice a year, in the spring (May-Aug) and in the fall (Oct-Dec).
NCEES FE
If you have been given the option to write the NCEES FE in place of your exams, you may choose to do so. This exam is offered by NCEES and is not controlled by APEGNB. To view their policies and to apply to write, visit the link above.
Technical Exams
These exams assess whether you have obtained the equivalent education qualifications to satisfy the academic requirements for licensure in the discipline of assessment. Your Examinations Committee decision letter will provide you with more information on which exams you must write before being considered academically qualified.
Technical Exams are offered twice a year, in the spring (May-Aug) and in the fall (Oct-Dec).
Do not sign up for examinations before they are officially assigned.
Upon completion of all assigned exams (excluding the NPPE), courses or interviews, it is the applicant’s responsibility to contact registration@apegnb.com to request an academic qualifications letter.
Academic assessment files are subject to be closed after 1 year of inactivity.
Activity is defined as, but not limited to: registering for prescribed exams, writing prescribed exams, notifying APEGNB of completed courses/additional education, submission of transcripts for new education, submission of additional supporting documents, or updating APEGNB regarding work experience. Closed files may require a new application to reopen, including possible additional costs.
