Do I need to register with APEGNB to practice engineering and/or geoscience??
In New Brunswick, the Engineering & Geoscience Professions Act governs the engineering and geoscience professions. The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick (APEGNB) administers the right to practise and the right to title for engineers and geoscientists in the province. By law, you must be registered with APEGNB if you fall within the following:
- All individuals practising engineering or geoscience independently in the province
- All individuals planning to use the title professional engineer, P.Eng., engineer, professional geoscientist, P.Geo. or geoscientist
Non-registered individuals must work under the supervision of a P.Eng./P.Geo. who is registered with the Association.
Can I apply to register as both an Engineer and a Geoscientist?
Yes, if you meet the engineering and geoscience academic requirements, you can apply for both designations. Your experience must also meet both the engineering and geoscience requirements. Some work experience may be counted towards both designations, and the Professional Practice Exam needs only to be written once. Dual applicants pay both application fees, but they will be charged annual dues for 1 designation only. This additional assessment can be done at the EIT/GIT level or later on at the P.Eng./P.Geo. level. It is possible to be enrolled for a time as a P.Eng./EIT, or P.Geo./GIT.
I’ve been struck off. What does this mean and what do I do now?
A strike-off may occur when your dues are unpaid, when your CPD units are not completed, or for other reasons. When you are struck off, you are no longer entitled to practice engineering or geoscience in or for application in New Brunswick, nor use the titles “Engineer”, “Professional Engineer”, “P.Eng.”, “Geoscientist”, “Professional Geoscientist”, or “P.Geo.” in New Brunswick. If you have been struck off, please contact APEGNB directly at registration@apegnb.com to discuss reinstatement options.
Appeals and reassessments of applications.
Professional, licencee, Member-in-Training and Certificate of Authorization (company/firm) applications are reviewed by the Board of Admissions. Academic assessment applications are reviewed by the Examinations Committee. Competency-Based Assessments are reviewed by the Internship Committee.
If you have additional information that was not considered when your file was originally reviewed, you may submit a request for a reassessment of an open file at no extra charge. Please submit your request along with any new documents or information to registration@apegnb.com. Closed files may require a new application to reopen, including possible additional costs.
If you feel the Board of Admissions, the Examinations Committee or the Internship Committee has made an error in their decision, you may request an appeal by submitting your request to registration@apegnb.com within thirty days of receiving your decision letter. Please include your reasoning as to why you believe the decision was made in error.
Appeals of Board of Admissions decisions will be heard by the APEGNB Council. Appeals of Examinations Committee or Internship Committee decisions will be heard by the Board of Admissions.
Do I require a meeting to apply?
A meeting is not required to apply for licensure with APEGNB. Potential applicants are encouraged to review the website prior to submitting a meeting request.

Do I require proof of liability insurance?
If you are a professional working under your own name we may request proof of professional liability insurance as per by-law 11.6.0.
Every person or holder of a Certificate of Authorization entered in the Register who offers or provides to the public, services that are within the practice of engineering or geosciences shall maintain in full force and effect at all times a policy of insurance issued by an insurer licensed to sell insurance in Canada to protect against claims resulting from errors or omissions of the practitioner.
Where is my stamp?
Your stamp will arrive by post to your preferred mailing address once your file has been approved. Your letter/ certificate will arrive separately.
Can I email you a copy of my transcript?
The APEGNB Board of Admissions will not accept scanned copies of transcripts. In order for an application to be fully processed, we must receive an official copy directly from the educational institution. In some cases we may require a course by course evaluation from our partner, World Education Services (WES). Learn more more about WES here.
Official copies of transcripts can be mailed to:

My bachelor’s degree was obtained outside of Canada. Can I still apply?
If your bachelors degree was obtained outside of Canada you would have to undergo an academic assessment . For this we will also need a course by course WES report (the one for a licencing body) sent directly to APEGNB from WES as the report used for immigration is insufficient.
